INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

for the

2008 Piccolo Spoleto Festival

Piccolo Spoleto college internships are currently available.  Selected college interns will receive 3 semester hours of credit (upon approval by their college advisor) for their internship with Piccolo Spoleto either in the Spring or May term.  If a student would like to have their internship in both the Spring and Maymester terms, they may qualify for up to 6 semester hours of credit.  In addition to the 3 (or 6) hours of college credit, interns will also receive a modest $500 (or $1000) stipend (toward that semester's tuition) from The City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs. 

Duties of the intern include (but are not limited to):

  • Type and edit copy for ticket brochure and program guide
  • Contact coordinators and determine what their volunteer/usher requirements will be during the festival
  • Work on the planning and implementation of an intern produced block dance during the festival.  Interns are responsible for every aspect of this event from creating the original idea to fundraising, marketing, and production.
  • Create and distribute marketing materials for festival events.
  • Proofread miscellaneous printed materials such as programs, booklets, letters, posters, etc.
  • Work on fundraising projects for the Piccolo Spoleto Festival.
  • Write press releases and assemble press kits; work in the press room during the festival
  • Attend staff meetings at The City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs
  • Perform data entry on an IBM computer system in programs such as:  Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Outlook, and the Raiser's Edge for Windows.
  • Type performer and coordinator contracts
  • Perform general office duties such as answering the telephone, filing, running errands, etc.
  • Deliver posters and program guides throughout Charleston County near festival time
  • Collect data from program coordinators about the performers in their series and the schedule of events in their series
  • Enter the schedule information and images collected onto the Piccolo Spoleto 2007 website
  • Work at various events during the festival as on-site personnel/ house manager.  Duties will include:  ushering, handing out programs, taking tickets, assigning volunteers their duties, assisting the stage manager, distributing/collecting audience surveys, running errands if necessary, etc.
